The Making of the Mahatma movie is a 1996 Indian Hindi-English Language Hisdtorical-Biopic of Mahatma Gandhiji (Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi) directer is Shyam Benegal, joint Produced by Indian – South African film Board Under banner of National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC), South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).
The film is based upon the book, The Apprenticeship of a Mahatma, by Fatima Meer (who also wrote the screenplay), about the early life of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (as Mahatma Gandhi- Great Soul) during his 21 years in South Africa.
The Making of the Mahatma movie is released in USA in 4th October, 1996. Earlier Naseeruddin Shah was casted as Gandhiji to do the film but dropped out due to his High price.
