Kimi Katkar Biography

Kimi Katkar is an Indian actress and model, who worked mainly in Bollywood movies. She acted in almost 50 movies, including Adventures of Tarzan (1985) and Hum (1991), during her busy 1980s and early 1990s.

Career

In the 1985 movie Patthar Dil, Kimi Katkar made her feature debut as a supporting actress. She played the lead alongside Hemant Birje in Adventures of Tarzan later that year. She worked on a number of well-known and successful movies after the movie till the late 1980s, including Khoon Ka Karz (1991), Mera Lahoo (1987), Dariya Dil (1988), Sone Pe Suhaaga (1988), Gair Kanooni (1989), and Jaisi Karni Waisi Bharnii (1989). During the three years 1988–1990, she acted in 35 films, with 15 of those releases occurring in 1989 alone.

She has played the lead against more established actors of the era like Jeetendra, Dharmendra, Shatrughan Sinha, Vinod Khanna, and Rishi Kapoor, but she was primarily coupled with Anil Kapoor, Govinda, and Aditya Pancholi.

She portrayed the lead opposite Amitabh Bachchan in Hum (1991). She was the subject of the iconic song “Jumma Chumma De” from this film, which was performed by playback singers Kavita Krishnamurthy and Sudesh Bhonsle. The movie Humlaa (1992) was her last. She turned down movie offers for Yash Chopra’s Parampara at the same time (Ramya Krishna eventually played the part). After being married to photographer and commercial filmmaker Shantanu Sheorey in 1992, Katkar left the Hindi cinema business and moved to Melbourne, Australia.

Her identity is linked to Gregory David Roberts’ novel Shantaram. Roberts, an Australian wanted man, fled to India and took jobs as an extra in movies, such as Paanch Paapi (1989), starring Katkar.

Personal life

Kimi is the daughter of actress Meena Fernandez from the past, who acted in movies including Amber, Milaap, Sujatha, Bank Manager, Anari, and Aar Paar. Shantanu Sheorey, an advertising film producer and commercial photographer, was Katkar’s husband. Siddhanth is her lone son. She currently resides in Melbourne, Australia, and previously resided in the Pune, Maharashtra, area of Aundh.
