Story of the film
Ganpatrao Bhonsle, his aspirational father, is training Vikramaditya Bhonsle, a young and capable politician, to be the next Chief Minister. Since he was a young boy, his father had held him responsible for his mother’s death during childbirth. This blaming led him to develop a twisted sense of privilege, thinking that he needed to use force to achieve his goals. Because of this childhood tragedy, Vikramaditya leads a life of luxury and political prominence, but underlying his polished façade lies significant mental instability.
When he sees Bollywood actress Adaa Randhawa and falls in love at first sight, his entire existence is turned upside down. Despite having no genuine relationship with her, he becomes instantly fixated on the prospect of getting married and imagining a whole future together. Adaa, on the other hand, is a strong, self-reliant lady with a contemporary outlook who has no feelings of love for him. She consents to be friends with him, but she rejects Vikramaditya outright after realizing his actual intentions.
He can’t bear the word “no,” so he starts pressuring and controlling her with his political influence. He sends henchmen to cause trouble in her life, sabotages her film projects, and threatens her career. He once stirred up controversy around one of her movies, stopping its showing because it offended religious beliefs. He is portrayed in a sympathetic light despite his increasingly menacing actions; he provides financial support to a young street vendor so the youngster may go to school, and he assists Adaa’s father when his name is implicated in an exam paper leak fraud.
Vikramaditya just becomes more unrelenting when Adaa consistently sets limits and resists his approaches. When he starts endangering her family and means of subsistence, the stress increases, and her life becomes a nightmare. He freely talks about wedding preparations with her at an armed forces gathering, despite her obvious distaste, demonstrating his delusional character.
Adaa reaches her breaking point when she gatecrashes one of Vikramaditya’s political rallies while wearing red and makes a startling public declaration on live television: she will spend the night with any man who kills Vikramaditya before Dussehra. Adaa is driven to desperation by his relentless harassment and finds no assistance from a police force that works for Vikramaditya. By placing a bounty on his head, she is attempting to weaponize the very masculinity he has been subjecting her to. She characterizes this act of rebellion as aurat ki sanak, or a woman’s craziness. Her announcement devastates Vikramaditya. Instead of retreating, his sadness shows up as more self-destructive behavior.
He plans an attempt on his own life, hiring someone to shoot him so he can show that anyone who tries to kill him would be imprisoned, in a perverse attempt to prove his love and send a message to the world. He survives the gunshot, but as he recovers, Adaa approaches him with icy rage, telling him that he is going to die and hurling pictures of him around an empty funeral pyre to demonstrate how much she enjoys the idea. In the meantime, Sawant, Vikramaditya’s right-hand man, discloses an important fact: Ganpatrao had tricked Vikramaditya into thinking he was to blame for his mother’s demise, but this was a falsehood meant to keep him under control. After discovering this, Vikramaditya has a fleeting epiphany.
He confesses his desire to marry Adaa, not as a demand but as a request, and apologizes, assuring her that her decision is what counts most. But this change is fleeting and devoid of real depth. When Sawant points his pistol at Adaa during the pivotal encounter, Vikramaditya jumps in front of her and is shot in the heart. He begs Adaa’s pardon as he lies dying.
She appears to finally feel the weight of his love and forgives him in that last instant, but it is too late. She places the engagement ring he had been holding on her finger as he passes away in her arms, a move that both undermines her earlier rebellion and independence and implies a belated acceptance of his affection. With Vikramaditya’s devotion overwhelming him and Adaa forced to deal with the complex fallout from a guy who loved her to the point of self-destruction, the movie ends tragically.

The original release date for Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat was October 2, 2025. The movie was eventually delayed, though, and it was finally released in theaters on October 21, 2025, which is also Diwali.

Review
Overall, EK DEEWANE KI DEEWANIYAT is unabashedly massive and intensely emotional, supported by strong performances and pounding music, according to Bollywood Hungama, which gave it a rating of 3.5 out of 5.
The Times of India’s Archika Khurana rated the film 2.5 stars out of 5, describing it as an aesthetically beautiful but predictable romantic drama elevated by the performances of Sonam and Harshvardhan as well as soulful music. Watch it for the feelings rather than the novelty.
Vinamra Mathur of Firstpost, who gave the movie a two-star rating. Despite the success of obsessive (read: annoying) lovers like Kabir Singh and Kundan, the movie he has selected or that selected him feels thirty years too late.
