Santaan movie is remake of the Telugu movie Surigaadu (1992), starring Dasari Narayana Rao, Sujatha, Suresh, Yamuna in the lead roles. Both the movies are made by same banner and director, later remade as the Tamil movie Watchman Vadivel, with Sivakumar essaying the title role and Sujatha reprising her role from the Telugu original.
