Story of the film
The echoes of “Kesari,” Akshay Kumar’s 2019 epic about the Battle of Saragarhi, are set to reverberate once more, but this time with a poignant shift in focus. “Kesari Chapter 2,” slated for release on April 18, 2025, promises to delve into the harrowing aftermath of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, shining a light on the often-overlooked legal battle waged by C. Sankaran Nair.
While “Kesari” celebrated the valor of soldiers, “Kesari Chapter 2” shifts its gaze to the courtroom, transforming Akshay Kumar into the formidable lawyer who dared to challenge the British Raj. This historical drama, directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, will explore the relentless pursuit of truth that followed one of India’s darkest chapters.
This film’s story is based on the book, “The Case That Shook The Empire” written by Pushpa Palat and Raghu Palat, and promises to bring the historical legal drama to life.
A Story of Justice and Courage:
C. Sankaran Nair, a member of the Viceroy’s Executive Council, resigned in protest against the massacre and dedicated himself to exposing the atrocities committed by General Dyer. His legal battle became a crucial turning point in the Indian independence movement, highlighting the injustices of colonial rule.
Akshay Kumar, known for his portrayal of patriotic characters, will step into Nair’s shoes, bringing to life the lawyer’s unwavering commitment to justice.
The film will not only depict the legal intricacies of the case but also the emotional and political turmoil that gripped India during this period.
The movie centers on C. Sankaran Nair (Akshay Kumar), a renowned Indian lawyer and Viceroy’s Council member who was first assigned by the British to look into the slaughter in the hopes of receiving a report that would support their position. Nair challenges the narrative of the British Empire by suing The Crown and General Reginald Dyer for genocide after learning of the horrifying truth of Dyer’s ordered massacre of defenseless villagers in Amritsar.
Nair fights against Neville McKinley (R. Madhavan), a cynical Anglo-Indian lawyer with a personal grudge sent to defend the British, with the help of a teenage rebel named Pargat Singh (Krish Rao) and a resolute law student named Dilreet Gill (Ananya Panday). While Nair’s fight for justice ignites a wave of patriotic resistance, the fierce legal battle reveals the colonial suppression of truth and media manipulation.

Reviews
Critics gave Kesari Chapter 2 reviews that ranged from favorable to mixed. Bollywood Hungama gave the movie a 3.5 out of 5 rating, saying Overall, KESARI CHAPTER 2 is a powerful courtroom drama that succeeds because of the treatment and acting as well as the fact that it depicts a horrific and little-known period of Indian history. Strong word-of-mouth will be necessary for it to continue and turn a profit at the box office. Its business may be somewhat restricted by the adults-only rating.
Kesari Chapter 2 is a must-watch because of its compelling courtroom drama, outstanding acting, and uncompromising depiction of a troubling period in history, according to Rishi Jogani’s review for Pinkvilla. The film’s strong second half, soulful music, and outstanding performances make it an engaging experience, even while its commercial elements—such as the loud score—frequently take away from its groundedness.
India’s Vineeta Kumar Kesari Chapter 2 doesn’t solely rely on a strong, chest-thumping sense of patriotism to win over the audience’s hearts, according to Today’s 3.5/5 review. It also has an insightful discussion detailing Hindu-Muslim harmony and the memorable usage of the F-word in an open court. It lets you participate in the drama and unabashedly adds a little creative flair.
Lachmi Based on the Jallianwalla Bagh massacre and the courageous lawyer, Shankaran Nair (Akshay Kumar), who rocked the basis of the British Empire, the film is strong and incredibly captivating, according to Deb Roy of Firstpost, who gave it a rating of 4/5.
The Indian Express’s Shubhra Gupta gave the movie a 2.5 out of 5 rating, describing it as a patriotic picture that was appropriate for its era.
The Hindu’s Anuj Kumar wrote a scathing review of the movie, saying The big boys of Bollywood appear to be tampering with present history after fiddling with ancient history. Although the evil deed of the Empire must be revealed, the Dharma Productions-produced movie exploits the martyrs’ sacrifice at Jallianwala Bagh to fabricate a story about the tragic event. Despite the disclaimer stating that it is a work of fiction, it turns out to be a distortion of well-documented historical events that are readily available at the touch of a button, using real happenings and characters.
