Gautam Govinda (1979) is a Hindi-language film which was directed by Subhash Ghai and produced by Shyam Sunder Shivdasani. Shatrughan Sinha, Moushumi Chatterjee, Aruna Irani, Vijay Arora, Nirupa Roy, Premnath, Madan Puri, and Shashi Kapoor all play important parts in the movie. Reena Roy made a special appearance. The composer of the music is Laxmikant-Pyarelal.

Interesting facts
“Gautam Govinda Gopalam” was the original title of the film when it was first planned and released. Gopala was for Vijay Arora’s character. The distributors urged the producer to change the title to simply “Gauatam Govinda” due to Vijay Arora’s diminishing box office performance. Vijay Arora claimed the producer changed his mind for numerical reasons.
During a risky stunt, Bhiku Verma was burned. Bhikoo Verma sustained third-degree burns after the bull cart caught fire during the bull cart stunt.
This movie followed the huge success of Vishwanath, followed by Gautam Govinda and Karz.
“I have tasted failure and success, and I know that when failure happens, everything around you changes,” said Subhash Ghai. The celebration ended after Vishwanath. Karz, Krodhi, and Gautam Govinda. The creation of Gautam Govinda and Krodhi took three years. Everyone around me changed their opinions after seeing these two flops. People betraying me was something I would never forget. Shatrughan Sinha even had a change of heart. According to him, Subhash Ghai must understand the distinction between an actor and a role. He is unable to distinguish between art and commerce. He made a lot of statements as though he was familiar with commercial film. He failed to remember that he received Kalicharan and Vishwanath from Subhash Ghai.
Movie review
The two characters’ different personalities—one more serious and the other more carefree—are at the center of the story. As the characters work through personal struggles and their changing relationships, their interplay serves as the film’s emotional center.
The chemistry between Dharmendra and Hema Malini, who give their parts a relatable energy, helps Gautam Govinda even though the movie doesn’t present anything novel regarding plot or technique. Despite its share of late 1970s melodrama, the movie is nevertheless worth seeing for lovers of Bollywood drama and romance from that period.
