Story of the film

Anil, a wheat vendor who is 28 years old, resides with his mother, sister, and wife. Anil accepts a dowry since he is thrilled about his sister Neha’s marriage to Ajay, a prospective government employee. He intends to sell his late father’s land to pay for it, but MLA Amar Singh is suing over it. He approaches the MLA and asks to reclaim his land, and the MLA grants his request. When he returns later, the cops make a pointless arrest. He understands that the broker has twisted the situation to benefit MLA. Due to her disappearance or kidnapping, the sister’s marriage has been canceled. After being assaulted, the broker confesses. Anil is shot by an MLA’s goon. The climax is when he dies.

Uttar Pradesh serves as the backdrop. Anil Singh (Pratik Gandhi), the proprietor of a little food grains store, is eager to wed his sister Neha (Prasanna Bist), but the avaricious would-be in-laws insist on a large dowry. Anil is compelled to sell the land his late father purchased to raise the funds. He is taken aback, though, when the broker informs him that the local MLA has taken his land and suggests that he drop the issue. Without a way to obtain the funds, in an attempt to regain his land, Anil goes to the police, the court, and even meets with the MLA. He resolves to quit being a pushover and fight for justice and his rights when all attempts fail. The rest of the plot revolves around his success or failure.

The idea of corrupt police officers and politicians oppressing normal people and the populace rebelling against them is not new in and of itself. Nonetheless, Pulkit, the filmmaker and writer, keeps you interested with his straightforward yet harsh work. Anil faces a system that is biased against him, from runarounds at the police station to courtroom drama, encountering the politician’s goon and the MLA himself. His problems and the drama of the movie are exacerbated by the criminals’ attempts to subtly warn him (by filing a false accusation against him, among other things).

The story fails to completely realize its thriller potential despite the grim theme. Anil’s struggle reaches a stressful turning point in the conclusion, leaving spectators wanting more. The movie may have been improved with a more satisfactory ending and a more thorough examination of the broker’s complicity in the property seizure.

Pratik Gandhi does a fantastic job portraying both a normal man and a man who is upset. His rants in the police station and when his lawyer brother-in-law, Bablu Bhaiyya (Mukesh Chhabra), reveals the scheme to him are two situations in which he excels. As his wife, Khushaali Kumar has a significant influence as well. The actor demonstrates her abilities in every scene and captures the mannerisms and accent of a housewife from UP; she particularly captures the subtleties of a submissive and encouraging wife who yet expresses her opinions and is a voice of reason. As Neha, Prasanna Bist does a wonderful job as well. Pratik Gandhi’s acting and the realistic depiction of an ordinary man’s fight against injustice and corruption make the film worth seeing. But be ready for an unsettled conclusion.

Review

Pratik Gandhi once again demonstrates that he is an actor who can bring any character to life with his devotion to his art and intuitive grasp of what the job demands, according to Rediff.com’s Deepa Gahlot, who gave him a rating of three out of five stars.

Pratik Gandhi appears in almost every frame of the movie, which isn’t a negative thing at all, but the director would have done well to give the supporting players more to do, according to Saibal Chatterjee of NDTV, who awarded it two stars out of five.

Pratik Gandhi’s acting and the realistic depiction of an ordinary man’s fight against injustice and corruption make the film worth seeing, according to Times of India reviewer Dhaval Roy, who gave it a rating of 3 out of 5 stars.

Times Now’s Sonal Pandya rated Dedh Bigha Zameen 2.5 stars out of 5 and stated that although the story and setting are excellent, the acting is a weak point in the film’s execution. Although Gandhi is the film’s main character, it frequently borders on melodramatic.

In his review, Rahul Desai of Film Companion stated that this movie is a contemporary tribute to Bimal Roy’s style of neo-realism. However, the goal of Dedh Bigha Zameen is more than half an acre away. It’s almost monotonous since it’s so “real.” Its choice to be uninteresting is meant to be courageous.
