Story of the film
Savitri’s mother dies soon after giving birth to her, leaving her crippled father, Dharamraj, with little choice but to remarry Champa, who gives birth to a son, Ketan. Champa severely slaps and bruises Savitri and is quite rude to her.
Years later, the kids are adults, and Dharamraj has developed a serious alcohol problem. Then Ketan quits his work and moves to the city. Soon later, they get a letter from him informing them that he has a job but requires a 1,000 rs security deposit.
If Savitri does not pay back the cash before Diwali, she promises to wed Thakur, an elderly, wealthy widower, in exchange for a thousand rupees. The night of the wedding, the Thakur, who Savitri is compelled to marry because she loves Satyavan, dies from a snake bite. After being harassed by his younger brother Balwant, widowed Savitri attempts suicide.
A few villagers save her, but she is later sold to Jamnunabai, who plans to use her as a courtesan for the rest of her life. Her customers are pleased, and a wealthy guy named Nawab Hasmat Ali Baig is ready to spend a sizable quantity of money in exchange for sexual favours. What will Savitri do in this situation is the climax of the film.
