Story of the film
Mamta Mishra (Divya Khosla Kumar) is a widow who lives in poverty alongside her mother-in-law and small son Sonu. Her late husband owed Thakur’s debt collectors money that she is currently unable to pay, thus she is continuously evading them.
The money that government contractor Abhishek Verma (Neil Nitin Mukesh) and his political cronies, such as Minister Qureshi (Zakir Hussain), have embezzled from the people and government has made him incredibly wealthy.
One day, Abhishek’s automobile gets into an accident while he is traveling to a crucial meeting with Qureshi. He chooses to use the metro in order to get to the meeting on time. His phone is stolen at the station. After seeing this on CCTV, Mamta, a metro station employee, rushes out to pursue the robber but comes back empty-handed.
Mamta had covertly plotted with the thief; it is subsequently revealed. To give her kid a phone for his birthday—something she couldn’t afford—she had instructed him to steal one.
When Abhishek discovers that the stolen phone has private information about his unscrupulous activities and his affair with his secretary Tina Gupta (Heli Daruwala), he becomes terrified. He requests that his friend Triloki (Sushant Singh), a police officer, retrieve the phone immediately. Triloki starts the inquiry.
Mamta finds the damning information on the phone at home, including messages, videos, corruption evidence, and proof of Abhishek’s extramarital affair. She modifies her strategy and calls Abhishek, requesting a ransom of Rs 2 crore. Abhishek declines.
Triloki attacks Mamta’s home after discovering her involvement.
Abhishek is startled to discover Mamta—a maid hired by his wife—when he gets home. He tries to appear normal and pretends not to know her out of fear that she could reveal his affair. Mamta takes advantage of this and compels Abhishek to get her mother-in-law released.
Mamta deftly builds suspicion between Abhishek, Tina, and Qureshi over the course of the following few days.
Abhishek kidnaps Sonu from school and demands that Mamta give him the phone after multiple unsuccessful attempts to take it by force. Abhishek’s goons beat Mamta as she gets to the scene, but she won’t give up the phone. When Abhishek threatens to kill Sonu, Mamta laughs and admits she misled him into abducting the incorrect child. In reality, the boy he abducted is the gangster’s son of Thakur, to whom her husband owed money.
Tina, Qureshi, Triloki, and Thakur soon show up. Using Abhishek’s own texts, Mamta exposes Abhishek’s betrayal of Qureshi. The group gets into a furious argument. Then Triloki discloses that everything has been captured on his phone. He conducts raids on Qureshi’s and Abhishek’s properties using the recording as proof.
In the last surprise, Mamta admits that her husband’s debt and eventual suicide were caused by Abhishek’s swindling. Abhishek also killed Triloki’s father. Mamta and Triloki carefully organized the entire operation to reveal Abhishek’s offenses; thus, the theft of his phone was not an accident.
When Sonu tries to run away, Abhishek captures him and holds him at gunpoint because there is no way out. An approaching train hits him and kills him. Qureshi and Tina are arrested as a result of the corruption scandal being made public.

Review
It is so heartening to see our cinema get out of the hero-heroine-villain claptrap, to explore the wicked side of every character, good, bad, and ugly,” remarked Subhash K. Jha, writing for News 24, who gave the film a rating of 3.5 out of 5.
The Times of India’s Dhaval Roy gave it a 3 out of 5 rating, stating that while Ek Chatur Naar isn’t particularly sharp, it nevertheless belongs in the category of clever comedies.
With a rating of four stars out of five, Yatamanyu Narain of News 18 said that Neil Nitin Mukesh excels in Umesh Shukla’s wickedly humorous and exhilarating black comedy, while Divya Khosla gives her career-best performance as Mamta.
Rediff.com’s Divya Nair rated it one star out of five, noting that Amar Mohile’s title score, which gives this otherwise futile attempt at a dark revenge thriller some vitality, is its single redeeming grace.
According to Devesh Sharma of Filmfare, Ek Chatur Naar is a revenge comedy that takes up cudgels against various banking scams and injustices against farmers, earning it three stars out of five.
