Story of the film
Mohsin and his brothers, Aabil and Qaabil, two terrorists, are apprehended by Colonel Vijay Menon, a distinguished Indian Army commander stationed in Jammu and Kashmir. The terrorists demand the release of their comrades by kidnapping his young son, Harman, in retribution. Vijay declines to jeopardize national security in spite of his wife Meher’s entreaties. He puts Aabil to death and proclaims that national security takes precedence over personal relationships.
A now-adult Harman is one of the hostages the Army finds during a rescue mission in a terrorist camp. Harman is, in fact, their biological son, according to a DNA test.
Harman has become extremely politicized due to Qaabil’s influence throughout his years in jail. His family’s efforts to reconcile with him are at odds with his devotion to radical ideas.
Harman confronts his father with a weapon as a result of the growing mistrust. Meher is unintentionally shot and hurt in the confusion. Confusion and remorse overwhelm Harman as he runs away.
Harman is unintentionally lured into Qaabil’s scheme to carry out a big bombing during a dam inauguration. After that, a significant discovery is made: Meher was an undercover Pakistani intelligence agent. After capturing Qaabil, Meher obtains the bomb deactivation code and transmits it to Vijay. She gives her life for the mission despite suffering serious injuries in the process.
To disarm the device in time, Vijay and Harman collaborate. Harman puts his life in danger to stop another assailant in a last act of atonement. Meher is killed by her wounds even after the onslaught is stopped. At the end of the movie, Meher’s legacy of devotion and treachery unites Vijay and Harman as they grieve her sacrifice.

Review
Prithviraj and Kajol are both capable of ratcheting emotion, according to Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express, who rated the film with 1.5 stars out of 5. And Ibrahim, portraying a young man on the other side of the loyalty divide, who is brutally tormented due to a disability.
India’s Vineeta Kumar Today assigned this film, which stars Ibrahim Ali Khan, Kajol, and Prithviraj Sukumaran, 1.5 stars out of 5 and stated that neither the emotional family drama nor the patriotism lands connect. Instead, you get a meaningless narrative that makes a valiant effort to seem significant.
Given that Sarzameen is a Dharma Productions movie, Rahul Desai of The Hollywood Reporter India said that there is a collision of eras and sensibilities: vintage “Loving your family is the most important thing” vs. modern. It all comes down to loving your country.
Kayoze Irani has set the stage for a moving roller coaster, but “Sarzameen,” which stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Kajol, and Ibrahim Ali Khan, is completely underdone, according to Anuj Kumar of The Hindu.
Rediff.com’s Syed Firdaus Ashraf gave it a rating of 1.5 out of 5, stating that Sarzameen is dragged down by poor writing, ridiculous story aspects, and subpar performances. “Sarzameen does move briskly and throws up big emotional moments but tries hard to make a statement, ending up saying nothing clearly,” stated Shreyanka Mazumdar of News18, who gave it a rating of two out of five.
Sarzameen is a film with excellent aspirations that works in sections, according to Radhika Sharma of NDTV, who gave it two stars out of five. Another benefit is that it’s a patriotic tale devoid of overt criticism of Pakistan or normalized chest-thumping.
On a scale of 1 to 10, Sarzameen is one more movie where you wonder how much of a difference it would have made if Mihir Ahuja had played the lead role instead of the supporting cast, according to film critic Sucharita Tyagi’s review.
Firstpost’s Vinamra Mathur rated Sarzameen a two out of five, pointing out that the film’s climax—a twist that isn’t fully explored—is the most perplexing aspect. He claims that while the two gifted lead actors give some of their worst performances in recent memory, the producers are more concerned with forcefully conveying a message about hate and humanity.
Sarzameen, which translates to “homeland,” is more of a collection of emotional clichés and nationalistic caricatures than a true movie, according to Troy Ribeiro of Free Press Journal. He said that although the movie makes a lot of effort to arouse emotion, it does it by dictating precisely what and when the spectator should feel. Despite having a genuine tone, the movie sticks to a formula and suffers from antiquated narrative and clumsy execution.
Sarzameen offers one of the most ludicrous and preposterous plot twists in recent memory, according to Nandini Ramnath of Scroll. in. Vijay’s hard-won reputation as a decorated officer is destroyed by the absurd disclosure.
