Kesari movie Story:
Kesari is a historical drama film based on the true story of the Battle of Saragarhi, which took place on September 12, 1897, in the North-West Frontier Province (now in Pakistan) of British India. The film begins with Havildar Ishar Singh (played by Akshay Kumar), a British Indian Army soldier, being transferred to the 36th Sikh Regiment stationed in the Saragarhi outpost.
Ishar Singh’s arrival at Saragarhi coincides with the British government’s decision to construct a new road through the Afghan border, which sparks outrage among the Afghans who launch a surprise attack on the Saragarhi outpost. The outpost was manned by 21 Sikh soldiers, who are tasked with defending it against 10,000 Afghan invaders.
Despite being heavily outnumbered and lacking proper resources, the Sikh soldiers led by Ishar Singh refuse to back down and bravely fight the Afghan attackers. The battle lasts for several hours, and the Sikh soldiers inflict heavy losses on the Afghan army before ultimately succumbing to the enemy’s superior numbers.
Throughout the film, the story of Ishar Singh’s personal life is interwoven with the narrative of the battle. Ishar Singh is depicted as a man with a tragic past, having lost his wife and child due to societal oppression. Despite his personal struggles, Ishar Singh is portrayed as a determined and fearless soldier, who is willing to sacrifice his life for his country and his fellow soldiers.
The film ends with the British army receiving news of the Sikh soldiers’ heroic stand at Saragarhi, and the British commander-in-chief posthumously awarding them the Indian Order of Merit, the highest award that a soldier could receive at that time.
In summary, Kesari is a compelling retelling of the Battle of Saragarhi, which highlights the bravery and resilience of the Sikh soldiers who fought against overwhelming odds. The film effectively captures the intensity of the battle and the human cost of war, while also providing a glimpse into the personal life of one of the most iconic soldiers in Indian history.

Kesari Movie Review:
One of the strongest aspects of Kesari is its action sequences, which are intense and well-executed. The battle scenes are especially impressive, with the film’s cinematography capturing the chaos and violence of the conflict.
Akshay Kumar delivers a solid performance as Ishar Singh, effectively conveying the character’s bravery and determination. The supporting cast, which includes Parineeti Chopra as Ishar Singh’s love interest, also turns in strong performances.
One criticism of the film is that it sometimes feels a bit overly patriotic, with some scenes bordering on jingoism. Additionally, some of the supporting characters are not as well-developed as they could be.
Overall, however, Kesari is a well-made film that effectively tells the story of the Battle of Saragarhi and the bravery of the Sikh soldiers who fought there. It is definitely worth a watch for fans of historical dramas or war films.
