Story of the film
One lovely morning, Amar informs his wife Mansi that at some point in their marriage, the love will progressively fade and only “togetherness” will be left. After that, Mansi suggests that they take a honeymoon, but Amar says that this will just be a waste of the money they have been saving for a long time to build a wonderful house for themselves and their son Babla. They are eager to save money for their ideal home and currently reside in a run-down residence. Sapna is hired as a new typist in Amar’s office. She ignores the lustful longing with which every coworker looks at her. Her presence causes her coworkers to forget their tasks, which has a harmful effect on the employees’ performance. After first considering firing Sapna, the office head decides to let her sit in Amar’s cabin. He asks Amar if he has any issues with Sapna sharing his cabin. Amar accepts this agreement grudgingly.
In general, Sapna is used to being the center of attention. Amar, however, disregards her. Amar progressively attracts Sapna due to this ignorance. She slowly attracts him. After first resisting Sapna’s advances, Amar eventually yields and begins a romance. Amar believes that his and Mansi’s marriage is merely a social requirement and that their relationship has lost its essence of love. In his marriage, he experiences tension and boredom, but Sapna’s presence offers him the sense of love he longs for. He exhibits signs of abnormal conduct at home and becomes anxious. Amar no longer even enjoys coffee, and after being convinced by Sapna, he now enjoys drinking tea. Mansi is surprised by these actions.
Amar is under pressure from Sapna to tell Mansi everything and file for divorce as their relationship deepens. After experiencing a moral problem, Amar finally acknowledges their courting of Mansi. Although she wishes to invite Sapna to her home, Mansi promises to leave Amar. She claims that although Sapna has seen Amar’s accountant persona, she needs to see his family man’s side in order to fully understand him as a person. She claims that Sapna must have been unaware of Amar’s admission and her courtship of Mansi while she was living in the house. Sapna accepts the offer when Amar consents to invite her.
Mansi paints the house in the meanwhile. She wears a lovely saree when she returns home from a beauty salon. Babla is sent to his friend Kedar’s home by her. When Amar and Sapna visit the house, they are taken aback by how Mansi and the house have changed. Mansi treats Sapna with such gentleness. Mansi instructs Amar to bid Sapna farewell when she makes the decision to depart. As a result, Amar and Sapna go while Mansi sobs.
Amar says goodbye to Sapna and leaves her in the middle. Sapna smiles, realizing that Amar has restored the color that was once missing from his life. When Amar gets home, Mansi and Babla enjoy coffee.

Interesting facts
This was the final installment of Basu Bhattacharya’s trilogy of films about marital problems in contemporary urban homes. The trilogy’s other two films were “Aavishkar” (1973) and “Anubhav” (1971). Kanu Roy composed the soundtrack for all three movies. Paradoxically, Basu Bhattacharya had a turbulent married existence despite portraying marriage life with such care. In 1961, he wed Rinki Bhattacharya, the daughter of filmmaker Bimal Roy, his mentor, against Roy’s wishes. Rinki left Basu Bhattacharya in 1982 after years of abuse, and she has since produced documentaries and written a great deal on domestic violence. In 1990, the couple officially filed for divorce.
Go to Ghar Mein Rehta Hoon and log in. This song had an on-screen appearance by Gulzar, the song’s lyricist.
Phoolon Ki Nahin Zindagi. After receiving a brief from director Basu Bhattacharya, Gulzar translated the Bengali lines to write the songs. Gulzar thought the lyrics were more wordplay than poetry, thus he wasn’t particularly fond of them. But Basu Bhattacharya insisted on preserving it since he enjoyed the lyrics.
