Story of the film
Saumya accuses Dhruv of trying to kill her at the Devipur village police station in Uttarakhand, where the movie begins. The narrative rewinds to a previous instance in which police officer Vidya Jyothi (VJ) answers a call about domestic abuse but determines it was a false alarm. Though Saumya chooses to keep quiet about it, Maaji, a maternal figure to her, quietly admits that she had called out of concern, stating that her husband, Dhruv, abuses her severely.
According to Maaji’s story, Saumya fell in love with Dhruv, who was the owner of a paragliding business in Devipur and the son of a minister. Shailee, Saumya’s identical twin sister, falls head over heels for Dhruv after he is introduced to her family. Since their mother’s passing, Saumya has been the focus of attention owing to multiple phobias and mental health concerns, and they have always been given priority. which now makes Shailee angry. Dhruv and Shailee begin dating, but due to Shailee’s erratic and audacious behavior, Dhruv starts to have second thoughts. A botched business deal also leads to his father pressuring him, controlling him, and trying to locate a domestic partner. As a result, Dhruv weds Saumya, but Shailee keeps pursuing him, which leads to friction.
VJ finds out about Dhruv’s violent actions and the rivalry between the sisters. According to Maaji, Dhruv’s temper erupts and frequently results in physical abuse whenever Saumya suggests having a child. In one instance, he leaves her half-dead after pushing her down the stairs. VJ confronts Dhruv because he is determined to hold him accountable, but Dhruv maintains that her fall was unintentional. Saumya initially agrees, saying she wants to start over with him and doesn’t want to lose to Shailee.
In the hopes that Dhruv will repeat his original suggestion, Saumya suggests a paragliding excursion at home. While everything is going on, Maaji is gathering evidence against Dhruv, who ignores her advice to change his ways. A scene between Shailee and Dhruv during a Holi festival leads Saumya to take Dhruv paragliding. Dhruv’s harness malfunctions in midair, but they both barely make it out. Saumya accused Dhruv of attempting to kill her by releasing her harness and pushing her out, which led to Dhruv’s arrest. He is found guilty of attempted murder and domestic abuse based on strong evidence, and he is given a prison term.
VJ notices irregularities in the case’s specifics. She discovers that Saumya and Shailee planned a ruse: before the paragliding, they had switched places, with Shailee destroying the harness in midair and then joining Saumya in accusing Dhruv. Shailee claims that their acts were justified when VJ confronted them, exposing the family’s history of covert domestic abuse. She acknowledges that it was wrong to keep quiet about their mother’s suffering, and VJ considers domestic abuse to be a communal problem rather than just a personal one. The movie ends with Saumya finding closure after VJ withdraws her appeal, believing that not always following the text is correct, and admits Dhruv’s guilt.

Review
Critics gave Do Patti reviews that ranged from mixed to poor.
With an average rating of 5.2/10, half of the reviewers’ reviews on the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes are favorable.
Rediff.com user Sukanya Verma gave the movie a score of two out of five, stating that while dysfunction brought on by a traumatic childhood is a legitimate concern, Do Patti’s half-baked demonology lacks an active voice and should have been more Dead Ringers than The Parent Trap.
There is enough in the Kriti Sanon-Kajol film for a juicy, substantive drama, commented Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express, giving the movie a rating of 1.5 out of 5. However, due to the poor language and thin characters, the unpacking becomes more of an unraveling.
According to Aakriti Agarwala of The Statesman, Do Patti sought to use a thriller to link some societal concerns, including spousal abuse, generational trauma, and the discussion of patriarchy and its fundamental nature. Furthermore, the movie relied on the contrast between the “word of law” and the “spirit of law,” but it lacked the impact to make this point. Despite having excellent intentions, there isn’t much room to consider the problems because of the flat character development and the easy plot.
It remained on the trending charts for more than 50 days after making an appearance in over 30 countries on the Netflix Global Top Ten Charts (Non-English) Film.
