Review

The pulpy detective thriller wastes Diljit Dosanjh’s comic timing and on-screen presence, according to Rahul Desai of The Hollywood Reporter India.

There are enough talented actors in this ensemble, led by Diljit Dosanjh, for us to expect an entertaining whodunit, according to Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express, who gave it a rating of 1.5 out of 5. However, the characters are made even flatter by the flat treatment.

India’s Vineeta Kumar Today gave “Detective Sherdil” a rating of 1.5 out of 5 and stated that it is less exciting than a lengthy episode of “Crime Patrol.” The movie itself doesn’t seem creative enough to make the entire experience worthwhile, despite Sherdil’s best efforts to keep you interested.

According to Shilajit Mitra of The Hindu, Diljit Dosanjh gives an unimpressive lead role in this complex murder mystery, which is reminiscent of “Knives Out.”

The Times of India’s Ronak Kotecha rated “Detective Sherdil” with 2.5 stars out of 5, stating that while it attempts to be a cunning caper, it ultimately turns out to be only a colourful diversion. It might have succeeded with a more clever script and witty humour. You won’t mind leaving this mystery unresolved, though, as it stands.

In contrast to “Housefull 5 (A and B)” and “36 China Town,” Vinamra Mathur of Firstpost notes in his assessment that “the final twist doesn’t feel frivolous.” It highlights the frailty of unhealthy relationships while also enhancing the core of the narrative.

According to Amogh Ravindra of the Deccan Herald, Diljit Dosanjh portrays the title role, a charming and witty investigator. The character frequently veers into caricature, which detracts from the mystery even though he provides his signature likability. The part played by Diana Penty seems underwritten.

According to Nandini Ramnath of Scroll, the 106-minute film settles into a farce in which adults act like cartoon characters and Sherdil jumps from one insight to the next once the expectation of fundamental rigour is set aside, which is early on. The show is dominated by Diljit Dosanjh without anyone noticing.

Yatamanyu Narain of News 18 noted that Diljit Dosanjh’s Detective Sherdil is a polished murder mystery that combines clever humour, surprising turns, and breathtaking graphics.

Devesh Sharma of Filmfare rated 2.5/5 stars and said that Sherdil is a mishmash of themes. It’s a murder mystery, comedy, moral drama, and parody all rolled into one.

Aishwarya Vasudevan of OTT Play also rated this film 2.5/5 stars and said that Detective Sherdil banks on Diljit Dosanjh’s charm but delivers a predictable mystery with meme-style humour, stellar casting, and an underwhelming plot that lacks suspense and surprise.

According to Shreyas Pande of Cinema Express, who rated the movie two stars out of five, it aims to be slick and quirky but just uses superficial embellishments.
