Story of the film
In Barmer, Rajasthan, Vedaa Berwa, a Dalit law student, lives with her family in 150 villages under the rule of Jitendra Pratap Singh. Due to caste prejudice, the higher caste constantly mistreats and tortures Vedaa. Vedaa chooses to train as a boxer to defend her family after learning that Jitendra’s brother, Suyog Pratap Singh, has started a boxing club at the college.
The Indian Army court-martialed Major Abhimanyu Kanwar for defying instructions to deliver terrorist Ilyas Kashmiri alive. Since Ilyas Kashmiri was accountable for the murder of Abhimanyu’s wife Raashi, Abhimanyu killed him. Abhimanyu joins Vedaa’s college as an assistant sports coach after arriving at Raashi’s hamlet in Barmer. Because of her gender and caste, Vedaa is not permitted to take boxing classes, but Abhimanyu notices a talent in her and starts training her in secret.
Meanwhile, Vinod Berwa, Vedaa’s brother, is secretly in love with Arati, a woman from a higher caste. However, they are discovered, and Vinod is punished in a kangaroo court. Despite this, Vinod and Arati elope and are married. Jitendra gets Vinod and Arati killed after tricking them into going back to Barmer. Vedaa flees and seeks Abhimanyu’s assistance when his sister Gehna is burned alive; Abhimanyu promises to protect Vedaa.
Vedaa decides to go to the municipal court and use the Dalit Protection Act to bring a lawsuit against Jitendar. They manage to get away and eliminate Jitendra’s men, including Suyog, thugs, and dishonest police officers. When Vedaa and Abhimanyu arrive in the court, they are attacked by Jitendra and his goons. The judges concur when Vedaa argues for her rights in front of them. Abhimanyu fulfills his promise to defend Vedaa by killing Jitendar, but then passes away from his wounds.

Review
With an average rating of 5.6/10, 44% of the reviews from nine critics on the review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes are favorable.
According to Rediff.com reviewer Deepa Gahlot, who gave the movie a rating of three out of five stars, Vedaa is realistic but it contains the mainstream features and action scenes that make a movie compelling.
The movie Vedaa is a predictable production with a poor finale and an unimpressive second half, according to a Bollywood Hungama critic who gave it a rating of 2.5 stars out of 5.
Hindustan Times commentator Rishabh Suri said that John Abraham and Sharvari’s caste system thriller provokes thought and conveys a strong message. Although it struggles with implausible character survivals and a mediocre soundtrack, he said the picture represents a significant departure for filmmaker Nikhil Advani, confronting the weighty topics of casteism and honor murders with a combination of action and drama. Sharvari excels in her part as the strong title woman, but John Abraham gives a mediocre performance as a heartbroken cop. The film’s central theme is well highlighted in a final court fight.
Lachmi Firstpost’s Deb Roy rated the movie three out of five stars, saying it was flawed yet daring for Dalit rights. wrote that She wrote that although the movie has a gripping story and addresses the urgent problem of Dalit rights, its impact is lessened by the overwhelming violence that overpowers the social message. Although John Abraham gives a cliched portrayal, Sharvari and Abhishek Banerjee steal the show, giving their parts nuance in a movie that finally makes viewers consider social injustices.
According to Saibal Chatterjee of NDTV India, who gave the movie a rating of 2.5 out of 5, John Abraham’s film occasionally succeeds in overcoming its setbacks. He claims that the film is a thriller about caste discrimination that departs from standard Bollywood by focusing on a young Dalit woman’s fight for equality and dignity, with John Abraham’s character lending support to her cause. The film features powerful performances, especially from Sharvari as the resolute protagonist, and successfully conveys the grim reality of caste violence despite its dependence on genre clichés and a slightly diluted storyline.
Indian Sana Farzeen John Abraham’s film makes you wish you had a fast-forward button, according to Today’s review, which scored it 2.5 stars. She said that although the movie tries to address the important problem of caste in India, it ultimately fails because of its sluggish pacing and undeveloped character arcs, especially in Sharvari’s title role. Despite its admirable goals, the movie is forgettable because it lacks memorable scenes and emotional depth, even if John Abraham excels in action scenes.
“It’s a mixed bag—a cinematic attempt to tackle serious subjects while providing the action-packed thrills that fans of John Abraham anticipate,” Troy Ribeiro of The Free Press Journal said in his 2.5/5 review. As a consequence, the movie is entertaining but doesn’t deliver a powerful punch, giving viewers the impression that the battle isn’t quite done yet, much like Vedaa’s queSharvari breaks the norm as John Abraham gets to cut and dice, according to Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express, who gave the movie a 2/5 star rating. According to her, the movie tells a noble but flawed story about a young Dalit woman’s fight against caste injustice, but it eventually falls victim to the traditional Bollywood cliche of ignoring its female heroine in favor of male bravery. The film’s effect is diminished by the predictable storyline and character arcs, which make viewers wonder if Vedaa’s journey gets the attention it merits despite Sharvari’s powerful performance and its moving moments. St.
The Times of India’s Sreeparna Sengupta rated the movie 3.5 out of 5 stars, writing that it was a powerful film with a message. She observed that the picture skilfully blends intense action with a gripping story about caste-based inequalities, highlighting both Sharvari’s emotional depth as the main character and John Abraham’s remarkable athleticism. The film’s gritty atmosphere and heart-pounding scenes make it an intriguing watch, even though it occasionally veers into clichés and has a complicated finale.
Nikhil Advani’s directing is praiseworthy, but after a promising beginning, the movie should have done more, according to Amit Bhatia of ABP Live. Unfortunately, the second half, which could have been much better with greater effort, falls short. The film is still entertaining all around. Shawari deserves special respect, as does the film’s topic.
