Film Story

The movie takes place in Mano Majra, a peaceful, made-up village near the Sutlej River boundary between India and Pakistan. The story revolves around Juggut Singh (Nirmal Pandey), a small-time criminal, and Nooran (Smriti Mishra), a local Muslim girl. Interestingly, the book’s original title when it was published in 1956 was Mano Majra.

Sikhs and Muslims coexist in the village. The majority of the land is owned by Sikhs, while Muslims are employed as laborers. When India was being divided in the summer of 1947, radicalism and intolerance were widespread throughout the entire nation.

Hindus and Sikhs in Pakistan fled to Indian refugee camps, while Muslims in India went to the newly created Pakistan. One day, a train arrives from Pakistan, which carries bodies of all the Sikh and Hindu children, Women and Men who have been butchered while they were trying to flee from Pakistan. At that point, this peaceful community undergoes a permanent transformation.
