Stree movie trailer
Stree movie Story:
This film story is based on the urban folk legend of “Nale Ba” in which an unknown woman abducts men at night when they are alone and only leaves their clothes behind, which become viral in Karnataka in the 1990s.
Chanderi is a small town in India, where Unknown an angry woman, “stree” stalks men and snatch them away during the four days of a religious festival every year, causing many disappearances of men over the years, causing fear in the town.
To protect the people from her outrage they write on the wall, “O Stree, come tomorrow” in Hindi (ओ स्त्री, कल आना) with bat’s blood on the entrances of all homes and men are advised are no to go alone after 10 pm during this religious festival season, and move in groups for safety – the same instructions women are usually given to follow for their own safety.
Vicky, a ladies’ tailor (Rajkummar Rao ) in Chanderi, sees a mysterious woman- an unnamed beautiful woman who only comes to the town during the annual religious festival season and falls in love with her at first sight.
She (Shraddha Kapoor) asks him to stitch her a lehenga. She frequently disappears, her shopping list such as a lizard’s tail, white cat’s fur, flowers of Datura, meat, brandy, and such like assume to be elements for black magic, and the fact that she is not seen by anybody except Vicky, makes his friend Bittu (Aparshakti Khurana) become doubtful, and he starts thinking that she could be Unknown Stree. After one of his friends, Janna, is kidnapped by Stree, Vicky also becomes suspicious of the woman as well. He follows her on and she disappears yet again.
They decide to find an option to save their friend and ask the town’s librarian Rudra Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi ) for help, who is also a paranologist. In Rudra’s bookshop, they found a partially torn book named “Chanderi Puran” in the library which is also Stree’s story, and an old fort that Vicky stated he has seen when he was on a date with the unknown woman.
Vicky, Bittu, and Rudra then go to the old fort, which Stree supposedly lives in, to find Janna. Stree moves away from Bittu and Rudra and it may attack Vicky but she does not, as she shows the feeling of love and respect in Vicky’s eyes. She is then moved away by the unknown woman’s spell.
She discloses later that she has been trying to beat ‘Stree’ for the last three years after losing close to her and that is why she comes to the town only during the festive season. This shows that she & Stree are two different persons. Stree releases Janna as requested by Vicky the same night, however, he starts having infrequent violent episodes. After other people go missing after their own Janna, under Stree’s control, erases the word “Tomorrow” (कल) from the protective phrases in everyone’s frontside of homes, leaving it as “O Stree, come”; (ओ स्त्री, आना) an invitation.
Vicky, Bittu, Rudra, and the woman try to meet the book’s author Shankar Shastri to find a solution to save the town, and he informs them that Stree had once been an extremely beautiful prostitute whom every man in town wanted. At last, she found a man who loved her and also married her, but on their wedding first night, Stree and her husband were killed by the town’s malicious men.
Afterward, Her spirit has been searching for her true love and also looks for revenge on the town with the goal to abduct every last man in it. Shastri tells them of a prediction pointing to a savior and Vicky surprisingly appears to have all the characteristics describing the savior.
Initially, Vicky believes that too until he recalls the inclusive feature of the savior, the son of a prostitute. His friends then show the secret of his being a prostitute’s son which anger Vicky and he leaves in hurry. In a drunk position, he confronts his father to which he silently agrees to upset Vicky further but then feels grateful for his father’s affection and efforts, and decides to save his town which accepted him and didn’t depress him.
The friends and the woman make a trap to kill Stree but Vicky realizes that Stree only desires love and respect and delays the plan. The woman then suggests Vicky cut her long braid – the source of her powers – so that she will become powerless. He does so, and Stree disappears. The woman leaves the chanderi the next day and Vicky offers her farewell, forgetting to ask her name all this time. On the bus, the woman merges Stree’s binding with her own hair and then disappears from the bus, showing that she is the witch who wanted Stree’s power through her braid.
Stree visits Chanderi again the next year and finds her own statue at the city entrance with a new slogan – “O Stree, protect us” (ओ स्त्री, रक्षा करना)- thus giving her respect, and she does not go to Chanderi.
