Doctors Akash “Akki” and Maya are married. Despite Akki’s disgust, pregnant Maya hurries across to aid when malaria attacks India near the Burmese border. Akash finds out shortly after that she died in a bus accident. It was raining hard when the bus struck the water.

Akash looks for Maya’s corpse fervently because he thinks that by examining the face of the deceased, one may determine the mental state of the deceased at the moment of death.

But he was unable to be successful. Maya’s death is incomprehensible to Akash, who firmly feels that she never passed away. In his own paranormal experiences, Akash senses that Maya’s spirit is attempting to reach him. Through the hospital patients who have had a near-death situation, he makes an effort to get in touch with her. Every patient doodles a peculiar symbol, and when Akash is alone himself, one body begins conversing with him. Maya’s close friend Tanya attempts to comfort Akash because it was Akash who provided her with care when her partner passed away in an accident. She thinks he’s delusional and that it’s her time now.

Akash makes the decision to return to the border, where it all started, with the assistance of a nun named Sister Martha and some hints. There, he makes an unsuccessful attempt to learn more about Maya with the assistance of a guide; as a result, Akash leaps over a waterfall close to the crash scene and discovers the submerged bus. Maya shows him her accident and the events that followed, and he sees her soul calling to him.

Asking if they were able to save Maya, he walks to the local tribe nearby. They claim she passed away, but her soul was spared. Akash is led inside where they reveal to him a surprise – even though Maya passed away, she gave birth to their daughter. Hence, despite their preterm baby’s survival among the tribe without any medical assistance, Akash realizes that Maya was teaching him to trust. In addition, he realizes that Maya’s ghost was attempting to get through to him in order for him to meet their daughter. After bringing their child home, he leads a happy life.

Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama gave only 1.5 stars out of 5 and Criticised the film by saying “SAAYA falls short of expectations. The film has some engaging moments that keep you hooked on the goings-on, but a handful of well-executed sequences can never really undo the harm done by a weak script and more specifically, a hard-to-digest climax. At the box office, the film has some chances in select cinemas of metros, but at most places, the ‘saaya’ of success will elude it!”
