Rustom movie is a 2016 Bollywood period crime Drama thriller film, Directer is Tinu Suresh Desai and producer is Neeraj Pandey while writer is Vipul K. Rawal. The film story is based on real life incisdents of K. M. Nanavati vs. State of Maharashtra case.
It starring Akshay Kumar, Ileana D’Cruz, Arjan Bajwa and Esha Gupta in the main roles. Rustom movie create new records by getting 3 million views on the Internet and also by getting 100 million views on television via zee network where it was simultaneously shown across all their channels.This was the first time any movie has reached the 100 million mark, that too in one day.
The film’s poster, tagline used are “Three shots that shook the nation” was an actual newspaper headline of Nanavati murder case vs the state.

Pre-post Production :
The film shooting started on location in Kent in April 2016 for the romantic montage where Rustom (Akshay Kumar) and Cynthia (Ileana D’Cruz) visit England including The Chequers Inn pub in Aylesford, Canterbury, Maidstone, Leeds Castle, Dover seafront and South Foreland Lighthouse. The Historic Dockyard Chatham also shown for the naval port and ship scenes.
Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna were sent legal notices for auctioning the costume worn by Akshay Kumar to portray the role of a naval officer. They were accused of “playing with the sentiments” of armed forces.

- Renuka Vyavahare of Times of India gave 4 star out of 5 star and stated that “Rustom film can be watched for its story and most importantly Akshay Kumar, whose action/comic brilliance often overshadows his acting prowess. He reminds you to value the honest officers who serve our country with dignity and valour. He makes you want to support the man who probably did the right thing the wrong way.”
- Ananya Bhattacharya from Indiatoday rated the film 3 star from 5 star and writes that “Akshay Kumar plays the Commander to perfection, both as the cuckolded husband to the man defending himself in court. Kumar keeps his performance largely understated, conveying more with his silences than words.Ileana D’Cruz works well as the guilty wife, but fails to make an impact when she is not silent or not weeping. Esha Gupta as socialite Preeti Makhija, Vikram’s sister, isn’t a fleshed out character. Her blood-red lips take away more attention than her acting. The supporting cast comprising Kumud Mishra, Pavan Malhotra, Arjan Bajwa and Sachin Khedekar mostly fit into their roles. There are parts where people overdo their bits though. The weakest part of Rustom is the treatment of the story. Among the good parts of the film is the number of songs in it. Tere Sang Yaara is a hummable track.”

His erect spine is shorthand for a man of duty and determination. But his character doesn’t have vulnerability or an arc. There is one nicely done jail scene when Rustom meets Cynthia for the first time after the murder. He grips his own arms tightly so that he doesn’t hug her. It’s sad and moving. The film is brave enough to give us a man who is so evolved that he understands and forgives his errant wife. But instead of exploring the dynamics of this, we get lost in heroism, corruption and courtroom dramatics. And truthfully, the only thing Parsi about Akshay is the name Rustom. the screenplay is inert, especially in the first half. The second half, which is almost entirely set in a courtroom, has more vigour. Usha Nadkarni, playing Rustom’s maid, gets a standout moment. But the world in Rustom never fully comes to life because the characters don’t feel authentic. The women – Ileana D’Cruz and Esha Gupta – flit around in fifties fashion.”
