Story of the film
This film’s story based on Amay Patnaik, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) official who recently received a transfer to Lucknow as the Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax. He and his wife, Malini, lead a happy life together. One day, he receives an anonymous tip about black money hoarded by Rameshwar Singh, a member of parliament from Sitagarh who had long evaded paying taxes.
Thus, after much planning, Amay and his team leave for Sitagarh. Rameshwar’s extremely antagonistic family opposes him and his team there, but he upholds his morals and principles. He and his colleagues look everywhere in the house, but they are unable to locate the black money. When everything seems hopeless after hours of looking, he gets a map and an anonymous note that tells him where the money is in the house.
Using the map as a guide, Amay and his team demolish ancient storerooms, walls, ceilings, and staircases in order to uncover valuables valued at crores (tens of millions). Unwilling to concede defeat, MP Rameshwar coerces Amay into allowing him to leave the house.
He then meets with the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, who declines to assist him because the raid is lawful and the income tax department is under the jurisdiction of the central government.
After being convinced to give Amay a call, the Central Finance Minister is quickly turned down. To no avail, a tenacious Rameshwar meets with the Prime Minister of India as well as a number of MPs, politicians, and senior bureaucrats. After that, he mobilizes his political backing and issues a threat to overthrow the state cabinet unless the prime minister meets with him. The PM and Rameshwar meet while the raid carries on for the third night in a row. Amay agrees to comply with the PM’s call to explore for other legal options, but only if she provides a signed fax order instructing Amay and his team to halt the raid, so invalidating the request.
The prime minister is aware that a written directive compelling the IRS officer to halt the raid could end up in the press and damage the government’s reputation. She sends Rameshwar away and declines to assist. After exhausted all of his political alternatives, Rameshwar becomes frustrated and attempts attacking Amay’s wife Malini, who barely escapes. Amay is incensed by this, but he chooses to keep his temper in check.
At noon on the fourth day, Rameshwar finally dispatches his goons to murder Amay and his group. After a protracted battle, the PM sends in a special police unit just in time to save a nearly defeated Amay. After being detained, Rameshwar asks Amay who his informant is before being taken away in handcuffs. Amay won’t provide that information. The informer turned out to be Rameshwar’s youngest daughter-in-law, who, together with her lover, sought retribution against Rameshwar for pressuring her into marrying his impotent son as part of a political agreement. While Amay is sent to a different place in the hopes of a better future, Rameshwar is shown in prison wondering who the informer is.

In August 2017, Raj Kumar Gupta made an official announcement about Ajay Devgn and Ileana D’Cruz being a part of his next film named Raid. More than 40 theatre actors of Lucknow were selected to play various characters in the film.
Film shooting:
The film shooting started mainly in Lucknow and Raebareli, and started in September 2017.
Raid Movie Real Story-History:
The film is loosely based on what happened to be the longest-running Income Tax raid in history. On 16 July 1981, IT officials raided the house of a businessman, and Congress MLA and a former member of the Rajya Sabha, Sardar Inder Singh in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
The morning of July 16 started quietly enough. When Alok Kumar Batabyal, deputy director (Intelligence) who headed the raids on the first day, left his house in Swaroop Nagar with a group of other officers, nobody paid the slightest attention. They recovered undeclared assets worth 16 million (US$220,000) in cash and gold. The raid reportedly took 18 hours and 45 people to count the notes.
The film music composers are Tanishk Bagchi and Amit Trivedi, while the lyricists are Manoj Muntashir and Indraneel.
The first song of the film “Sanu Ek Pal Chain” which is playback singer is Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was released on 12 February 2018.
The second song of the film titled as “Nit Khair Manga” which is also playback singer is Rahat Fateh Ali Khan released on 20 February 2018.
Both the songs were originally composer are Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and recreated by Tanishk Bagchi. The Music album was released on 1 March 2018 by T-Series.

- Rachit Gupta from Times of India gave 3.5 star from 5 star and stated that “Raid is filmmaker Raj Kumar Gupta delivering an entertaining and impressive story that is value for your money.Director Raj Kumar Gupta handles the film well. The last 10 minutes seem a little fleeting, but that’s a minor grouse. The music by Amit Trivedi and Tanishk Bagchi isn’t consistent either. But Raid is a film that caters to public sentiment against black money and corruption. All in all, this one’s right on the money.Ajay Devgn plays Amay Patnaik with characteristic intensity and resolve. Saurabh Shukla plays the chief antagonist Tauji to great effect.Saurabh Shukla’s performance as Tauji is the highlight of the film. He brings in quirks and shades that make his character the most interesting part of the film. We have seen Saurabh Shukla in similarly evil roles and he performs the loud, devilish character of Tauji perfectly. The supporting actors, especially other IT officials, offer an interesting peek into the way our system works and hints at reasons why corrupt politicians and businessmen are able to get their way around the law of the of the land. With a tighter editing, slightly less focus on the wannabe love story and a lesser dose of melodrama, Raid could have been a gripping thriller.”

What we get is same-old flashes of historic buildings in all their crumbling glory, as a backdrop to drab songs, but no sign of the vibrant, living culture of the place this film is supposedly set in.”

Sequel and Remake
The announcement of Raid 2 was made in April 2020. In January 2024, the main shooting got underway. Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, Saurabh Shukla, and Vaani Kapoor are the film’s main actors. The release date is set for May 1, 2025.
The Raid movie was remade in Telugu as Mr. Bachchan (2024), which was directed by Harish Shankar and starred Ravi Teja.
