Samrat Prithviraj movie is an upcoming 2020 Bollywood historical period drama film directer is Chandraprakash Dwivedi and producer is Aditya Chopra under his production house Yash Raj Films.
This film story is based on Prithviraj Raso written by Chand Bardai, a Braj Bhasha epic poem about the life of Prithviraj Chauhan, a king from the Chahamana dynasty. The film leading stars Akshay Kumar is playing the role of Prithviraj Chauhan, while Manushi Chhillar plays his wife Samyukta.
The Movie was officially announced on 9 September 2019, which marked the occasion of Akshay Kumar’s 52nd birthday, with a motion poster released on social media. The film shooting started on 15 November 2019, and it will be planned to theatrically released in India on 13 November 2020 during the Diwali festival, However film shooting was put on hold in March 2020 mainly due to COVID-19 pandemic lock-down in India, which may further delayed. The shooting was started in October 2020 at YRF Studios, and it is planned for release on 3 June 2022.

Pre-Production
The film director and writer Chandraprakash Dwivedi had completed film script for Prithviraj in 2010, and his first selection for Prithviraj’s role was Sunny Deol, with Aishwarya Rai as Sanyogita. However, due to Sunny Deol’s date problem and no production house take interest, so he left the project and it was almost delayed, but Chandraprakash Dwivedi dream to make Prithviraj and after fighting for many years in finding a producer to make the big budget film for him, finally Yash Raj Films offered to produce the film in 2018.
In March 2019, Akshay Kumar confirmed that he had playing the lead role of Prithviraj. The film’s official announcement was made on Akshay Kumar’s 52nd birthday (9 September 2019), with also release a motion poster released by Yash Raj Films on social media.
Casting of Samrat Prithviraj movie:
After winning miss world in 2017 Manushi Chhillar is in the news and making her Bollywood debut and has replaced Aishawariya Rai as Sanyogita. Sanjay Dutt and Manav Vij have been cast for negative roles. Later, Sonu Sood and Sakshi Tanwar also selected the cast. Other supporting stars cast are Lalit Tiwari, Ajoy Chakraborty and Govind Pandey.
Film shooting of Samrat Prithviraj movie:
Film shooting started on 15 November 2019 at Jamwaramgarh, Jaipur, Rajasthan, and a song was shot in January 2020, but the suddenly shooting was stopped in March 2020 due to the Coronavirus lockdown in India ordered by Indian government owing to COVID-19 pandemic.
Ahead of the 2020 monsoon season, sets created in Rajasthan were taken down because the cost of maintaining cost them during the coronavirus lockdown was too high. With no film shooting was expected to take place before the monsoon season, the two sets erected in Dahisar (one of a palace and one of an arena made for an action sequence) were destroyed and instead an indoor set was decided to be set up, to start film shooting.
After 7 months delays, finally shooting restarted at YRF Studios in October 2020. Akshay Kumar was spotted at the sets on 10 October 2020, while Sonu Sood and Manushi Chhillar were a part of this shooting also.
Release
The film was earlier planned to release on 13 November 2020, with Diwali holidays. However, it was postponed mainly due to due to the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. Later the film was again planned to release in theaters on 21 January 2022 in 2D and IMAX, but again postponed due to spread of Omicron variant of 3rd wave. Finally, film is planned for release on 3 June 2022.
