Casting

The main character, Raveena Tandon, wrapped up filming on December 23, 2022. The hiring of Chandan Roy Sanyal as a lawyer was finalized. The Judge was played by Satish Kaushik. Anushka Kaushik had a crucial part in the movie as well.

Story of the film

Tanvi Shukla (Raveena Tandon), who is seated outside the Patna civil court with several male attorneys, is thought of as merely another housewife who cannot effectively defend matters. Among her coworkers and her husband Siddharth Shukla’s (Manav Vij) acquaintances, her handcrafted laddoos and ghar ki rasoi are more well-known than her legal knowledge. Not even her spouse is supportive. However, when a 22-year-old student named Rinki Kumari (played by Anushka Kaushik) asks Tanvi to defend her, everything is put to the test. Rinki wants her papers reexamined since she believes the institution has unfairly failed her. However, Tanvi quickly learns that Rinki’s predicament is not unique when she takes up the case and that there are more participants in a much bigger swindle.

This movie’s predictability is undoubtedly not one of its best features. However, it is admirable how writer-director Vivek Budakoti (together with his co-writers Sammeer Arora and Farid Khan) manages to tell a straightforward story without losing control of the plot. Tanvi’s unremarkable middle-class house and workplace in Patna are presented with elegance and simplicity. The entire screenplay is executed without any startling features that may have detracted from the main plot and its message, even if it is a courtroom drama. What makes it effective is the straightforward and understated manner in which it tells a significant yet straightforward tale.

The picture mostly depends on Raveena Tandon’s fine performance, which is controlled and free of bombastic theatrics. The actress portrays Tanvi’s vulnerability and fierce will without missing a beat. Even though it moves slowly, Raveena’s faultless performance keeps the audience interested. Manav Vij is a good fit for the role of Siddharth, a man who must reconcile his wife’s unshakeable moral convictions with what is feasible in a tiny village. Once more, the late Satish Kaushik delivers a remarkable portrayal of a laid-back yet important lower court judge. Fortunately, talented performers portray some of the characters, although their writing is inevitably corny. Such as the sly politician Raghubir Singh and the stylish young star Jatin Goswami. Additionally, Chandan Roy Sanyal plays the arrogant defense attorney Neelkanth with convincing results. The background score and music throughout the movie are essentially unmemorable.

Release

The movie debuted on Disney+ Hotstar on March 29, 2024.

Review

Providing for the impoverished 1.5 stars out of 5. According to NDTV’s Saibal Chatterjee, there are other aspects of this movie that are perplexing besides the title. To put it mildly, the decision to film a narrative set in Patna in Bhopal is odd. The Indian Express’s Shubhra Gupta expressed that Patna Shuklla is one of those films you can watch just because you want to see decent women succeed, even though it has a climax rigmarole.

The Times of India’s Ronak Kotecha gave the movie a rating of 3.5 stars out of 5 and stated that Raveena’s faultless performance keeps the audience interested even if the movie moves slowly. Manav Vij is a good fit for the role of Siddharth, a man who must reconcile his wife’s unshakeable moral convictions with what is feasible in a tiny village.

Raveena Tandon is the lifeline of Patna Shuklla, according to Rohit Bhatnagar of The Free Press Journal, who also commended her performance. She does a really good job of carrying herself throughout the whole movie.

Outlook India’s Pushpangi Raina commented that while there are any sudden cuts in the film, there are a few brief black screen moments that are easily overlooked.

Poor received two stars out of five from Rediff.com’s Sukanya Verma, who noted that Patna Shuklla’s uninteresting drama lacks impact since it keeps bringing up skeletons in people’s closets as a fast remedy for everything.

According to News18’s Gautaman Bhaskaran, the movie “strongly resembles Jolly LLB”. He went on to write that there are other aspects of the film that match Jolly LLB. Judge Tripathi (Saurabh Shukla) and Judge Jha (late Satish Kaushik) in Patna resemble each other quite a bit.

The judges in Patna Shuklla and Jolly LLB are nearly the same, and even the back-and-forth between the attorneys and judges is similar in both films, according to Shreyas Pande of Cinema Express, who also thought the two films were similar.

Similarly, another writer for Bollywood Hungama remarked that the judge’s humorous side immediately brings to mind the Jolly LLB series. It seemed forced as well. Tanvi made a few weak arguments that did not appear very compelling.

What is worse is that the film can not stay and applaud Tanvi in her big moment of victory, Suparna Sharma said in her review for The Week.

According to Pratikshya Mishra of The Quint, Patna Shuklla has enough potential to be worth seeing despite its obvious shortcomings.

In addition to praising Raveena’s acting, Nandini Ramnath of Scroll. in commented that the film’s traditional focus on moral rectitude tilts somewhat too far in favor of its activist heroine. Tanvi’s legal acrobatics and courtroom strategies frequently raise doubts about her IQ.

Patna Shuklla is a well-made courtroom drama with an intriguing twist in the final twenty minutes or so of the movie, according to Rishil Jogani of Pinkvilla.

One critic from Telangana Today commented that women, too, have to deal with gender prejudice. Despite sporadic errors, it keeps a constant pace with a captivating story, comedic timing, and one-liners.
