It is one of the rare films to have music direction by noted classical singer Kishori Amonkar with lyrics by Vasant Dev.It won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi for 1990.

Drishti Movie Story:
Sandhya (Dimple Kapadia) and Nikhil (Shekhar Kapur) are a happily married, urban, professional couple. Coming from middle-class families, they have risen in their professional life by virtue of merit and hard work.On their eighth wedding anniversary, one of their friends brings his nephew Rahul (Irrfan Khan) who is a classical singer. Sandhya develops an attraction and has an affair with him. She confides in her friend Prabha but does not tell Nikhil. After a couple of months, the affair ends.After about a year, Nikhil falls in love with Vrinda, his assistant in the lab. He tells Sandhya about it and leaves her. Sandhya is shattered and they part. Four years after the divorce they meet again, and Sandhya mentions her affair with Rahul.
Sandhya and Nikhil have been married for 8 years and live a wealthy lifestyle in Bombay, along with a daughter, Rashmi. On their 8th anniversary, they invite several friends, chief amongst them Prabha and her husband, Ramesh; Revati, Gita, and an unexpected guest, a nephew of one their friend’s, Rahul. Prabha gets very intoxicated during this get-together, and confides with Sandhya about her rocky marriage. One year later, Nikhil shocks Sandhya when he tells her that he has fallen in love with a much younger woman, Vrunda, and wants to leave her. Sandhya begs and pleads with him to no avail. He does contact Sandhya again after about a year, this time to ask for a divorce. Again, Sandhya pleads with him to return, but he refuses. Then a year later, the estranged couple meet again, and this time it is Nikhil who wants to re-enter Sandhya’s life, and this time it is he who is going to be shocked by her candid confessions!!
Sandhya and Nikhil, a lovely married couple reside in Bombay, India. It is 8 years since they have been married and they now prepare to celebrate there wedding anniversary in prompt splendor. At this get together they invited many people: some friends and some relatives. Here they both get to reach some people they knew from before and some they cannot even recognize and some intoxicated friends that will change both Sandhya and Nikhil’s life forever.
