Story of the film :
Mihika Banerjee (Lara Dutta), a successful investment banker living in Mumbai, misses her flight to Delhi and needs to get there any way possible to meet her husband, Lt. Col. Vikram Rana (Akshay Kumar). The flight is diverted to Jaipur and with no flights available for several hours, she ends up sharing a rental car with Manu – but matters get even worse when the car breaks down, and both end up spending the night at a cockroach-ridden restaurant.
At daybreak, she ends up having no luggage, no car, and forced to ride a camel-cart with Manu, who she cannot stand anymore. Mihika with too many difficulties happy to discover the colours of India in their journey to Delhi.
They go by road and train and the audience gets a chance to see both the large urban conglomerations and the small rural areas like Nua, a small town in Rajasthan, that make up India. During the journey, Mihika experiences various difficulties which she has never encountered in her high class life. When Mihika’s money is stolen while she is buying a train ticket, she is forced to travel with Manu in the ordinary class in Jhunjhunu District. Thus the film revolves around Mihika’s and Manu’s journey amidst difficulties.

Critics review :
- Times of India critics gave 3.5 star from 5 star and praised the makers by writing “the film has so much soul especially in the climax, it makes up for any shortcomings in story and vision. Also, the narrative has a sweet simplicity which transports you into the onscreen journey and makes you a willing witness to the bond-building between ‘bhaisaheb’ and ‘behenji’. If Lara Dutta and Vinay Pathak carry the film through with their spontaneity, it is the fringe characters too who add spunk to the road show. And in case you need some more masala, there’s Yana Gupta reinventing Zeenat Aman’s classic item number `Laila o Laila’.”
- Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama also gave 3 star from 5 star and stated that “CHALO DILLI is speckled with sharp and witty lines delivered with accurate timing by the amazing Vinay Pathak, who never disappoints you. He’s the soul of the enterprise. Lara gets the character right and though there are a few rough edges in her performance, The film is exciting and amusing in parts. The film has some terrific moments, but the writing could’ve been more persuasive towards the post-interval portions. Yet, all said and done, there’s something nice about it, despite the blemishes. Decent watch!”
