Arun Govil as a Ram in Ramayana

Actor Arun Govil was born in India on January 12, 1952. His most well-known role was that of Lord Rama in the 1987–1988 Ramayan television series. Additionally, he starred in movies including Jiyo To Aise Jiyo (1981), Himmatwala (1983), Dilwaala (1986), Sawan Ko Aane Do (1979), Saanch Ko Aanch Nahin (1979), Paheli (1977), and Govinda Govinda (1994).

Early life :

In Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, on January 12, 1952, Arun Govil was born. He was raised in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, during his teenage years. He completed his formal education in science (BSc) at a Shahjahanpur-based Agra University affiliated college. Arun wanted to accomplish something that would make a lasting impact, but his father wanted him to work for the government.

Shri Chandra Prakash Govil, Arun’s father, worked for the government. Out of six brothers and two sisters, Arun is the fourth. The first-ever Bollywood celebrity talk show on Doordarshan Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan, hosted by Tabassum, a former child actress, was hosted by his elder brother Vijay Govil for 21 years.

Arun Govil Career And Personal Life:

He relocated to Mumbai in 1975 to work for his brother’s company. He soon discovered that he was bored with the work and made the decision to find something else to do. In college, he participated in plays before deciding to pursue acting. Govil’s sister-in-law Tabassum introduced him to Tarachand Barjatya in the 1977 film Paheli, which gave him his big break in Indian cinema. In Paheli (1977), directed by Prashanta Nanda, he made his Bollywood debut. After he was chosen for Satyen Bose’s Saanch Ko Aanch Nahin (1979) and Kanak Mishra’s Sawan Ko Aane Do (1979), he quickly rose to fame.

In Vikram Aur Betaal (1985), directed by Ramanand Sagar, he made his on-screen debut. After that, he was chosen to play Lord Rama in Sagar’s TV show Ramayan (1986), for which he was honored with a Uptron Award in 1988 for Best Actor in a Leading Role. He played Rama again in Sagar’s Luv Kush, and Padmalya Telefilms Limited’s Jai Veer Hanuman Barjatya signed Govil to a three-film deal, which included Sawan Ko Aane Do (1979) directed by Kanak Mishra, Raadha Aur Seeta (1979) starring Vijay Kapoor, and Saanch Ko Aanch Nahin (1979) directed by Satyen Bose. Sawan Ko Aane Do was a huge box office hit, making Govil a household name. At the box office, Saanch Ko Aanch Nahin was another hit. He appeared in Jiyo To Aise Jiyo (1981) by Kanak Mishra.

Govil was cast by Ramanand Sagar as Vikramaditya for his television shows Rama in Ramayan and Vikram Aur Betaal.

His portrayal of Rama gave him a lot of exposure and helped him land other TV roles, like Buddha in the series Buddha and Harishchandra in Vishwamitra. In the 1992 Indo-Japanese animated picture Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama, directed by Yugo Sako, he provided the voice of Rama. In the 1997 film Lav Kush by V. Madhusudhana Rao, he also portrayed Laxman. He made a guest appearance on The Kapil Sharma Show in 2020 to promote a book on the late Ramanand Sagar, alongside Dipika Chikhlia, Sunil Lahri, and Prem Sagar.

Govil is wed to Shrilekha, an actress. Together, they are parents to Sonika and Amal. Divya is their daughter-in-law.

He became a member of the Bhartiya Janata Party on March 18, 2021.

Political career

On March 25, 2024, Arun Govil was announced as the Bharatiya Janata Party’s nominee to represent Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut Lok Sabha constituency in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
