After that, he went to Boston University but left without graduating, so he moved on to Bollywood. At nine years old, he received a dyslexia diagnosis.
Career Of Abhishek Bachchan :
2000–2003: Debut and initial struggles
In 2000, Bachchan made his screen debut opposite Kareena Kapoor, who was also making her feature debut, as the male lead in J. P. Dutta’s war drama Refugee. Despite the movie’s lackluster box office performance, Bachchan and Kapoor’s roles earned them praise. According to Bollywood Hungama’s Taran Adarsh, the actor “has all the makings of an emerging competent actor in years to come.” Abhishek lives up to his family name and performs admirably even in his feature debut.”Next, Bachachn starred in Tera Jadoo Chal Gayaa opposite Keerthi Reddy, where he played an artist who falls for a one-sided romance. The film did not receive positive reviews or strong box office results. Dhai Akshar Prem Ke, his third release of the year, was a box office failure. It was a remake of the American film A Walk in the Clouds from 1995.He starred in the 2001 theater production of Bas Itna Sa Khwaab Hai, which was not well received.
In the 2001 movie Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham…, he also filmed a cameo that was eventually cut from the movie. Bachchan released four films in 2002, the first being the romantic drama Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya, in which she starred alongside Akshay Kumar and Karisma Kapoor. Then, he appeared in a cameo in his mother Jaya Bachchan’s Bengali film Desh. His next performance was in the ensemble cast of the comedy-drama Shararat. He then starred in Om Jai Jagadish. Both films were a commercial failure. Despite the fact that the romantic dramedy Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon (2003) was a box office failure, Bachchan’s performance in it earned him his first nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor. Abhishek Bachchan and Lara Dutta starred in the drama Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost that same year.
The film got bad reviews and did not do well at the box office. After that, he costarred in Kuch Naa Kaho with Aishwarya Rai and costarred in Zameen with Ajay Devgn and Bipasha Basu. Both of these movies didn’t do well at the box office or with critics. In his last film of 2003, Bachchan played Vikram Batra in LOC: Kargil, starring alongside a large ensemble cast.It was not a commercial success and garnered mixed to negative reviews.
2004–2009: Widespread success
Run, Bachchan’s debut venture from 2004, was a failure from both a critical and commercial standpoint. The political drama Yuva (2004), directed by Mani Ratnam, starred Bachchan next. Although it did poorly at the box office, Bachchan won his first Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for the role. After that, he appeared in the romantic comedy Hum Tum as a cameo and costarred in Phir Milenge with Salman Khan and Shilpa Shetty. Despite the film’s lack of commercial success, Bachchan was recognized with a Zee Cine Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role – Male. Bachchan gained more recognition in Hindi cinema by portraying a tough Mumbai police officer in the critically acclaimed action thriller Dhoom (2004), which also featured important roles for John Abraham, Uday Chopra, Esha Deol, and Rimi Sen.Naach (2004), his subsequent release, was not well received by both reviewers and viewers.
In the crime comedy Bunty Aur Babli, Bachchan and Rani Mukerji played the title con artists who pulled off multiple successful heists and fell in love in the process. This was Bachchan’s first release of 2005. It became the second highest-grossing Hindi movie of 2005 and brought him his first nomination for the Best Actor Filmfare Award. Alongside him in the film for the first time professionally was his father, Amitabh Bachchan, who portrayed a police officer who pursued the main duo closely. The political drama Sarkar, directed by Ram Gopal Varma, starred Bachchan after that and had a mediocre box office performance. He won his second consecutive Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of the morally pure son of a troubled politician (played by his father, Amitabh Bachchan), and he received high praise from critics for the role. His next two albums, Bluffmaster! (2005) and Dus (2005), were both moderately successful but did not receive much positive reviews. In addition, Bachchan made appearances in the action thriller Ek Ajnabee, the comedy Home Delivery, the romantic comedy Neal ‘n’ Nikki, the Bengali film Antarmahal, and the romantic comedy Salaam Namaste during the year.
Bachchan earned his third consecutive Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Karan Johar’s ensemble musical romantic drama Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), which addressed the themes of dysfunctional relationships and marital infidelity. Bachchan played a public relations professional in the movie whose wife, Rani Mukerji, is unhappy with their marriage. Consequently, the pair begins an illicit romance with Shah Rukh Khan, a buddy who is also unhappy with his marriage to Preity Zinta. Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna became the highest-earning Hindi film in overseas markets at the time of its release, grossing over? 1.13 billion (US$14 million) at the box office. Following that, Bachchan costarred with Aishwarya Rai in the historical romance Umrao Jaan, which was remade in 1981.
In addition to not being as well-received as the original, the film was a commercial flop. His next movie performance was in Dhoom 2 (2006), in which he, Uday Chopra, Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai, and Bipasha Basu reprised their roles from the original Dhoom (2004). Dhoom 2 was the highest-grossing Indian movie for two years, earning? 1.5 billion (US$19 million) at the time. Some critics, however, were unhappy, saying that Bachchan had been “reduced to a mere supporting player” in comparison to Roshan, his co-star.
Mani Ratnam’s 2007 film Guru, which was largely based on the biography of business tycoon Dhirubhai Ambani, stars Bachchan with R. Madhavan, Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan, Arya Babbar, and Aishwarya Rai (their first professional partnership after becoming engaged). Bachchan’s performance was praised by critics. The success of the film at the box office earned him his second nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. Guru was named the greatest Hindi film after Lagaan (2001) by the Los Angeles Weekly. His next release was the musical comedy Jhoom Barabar Jhoom (2007), in which he costarred with Preity Zinta, Bobby Deol, and Lara Dutta. The film had a mediocre run overseas and a mediocre debut weekend in India.Later, he appeared in the female-focused drama Laaga Chunari Mein Daag (2007) in a minor part as Rani Mukerji’s romantic interest. The film went poorly both monetarily and critically. He appeared alongside a number of Bollywood celebrities in the 2007 movie Om Shanti Om. Additionally, he appeared briefly in Aag and Shootout at Lokhandwala.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan joined the ensemble as a new member, while Bachchan and his father Amitabh Bachchan reprised their roles from Sarkar (2005) in Ram Gopal Varma’s Sarkar Raj, Bachchan’s first movie of 2008. This box office performance earned him his fifth nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor. Bachchan’s next major release after her role as a guest character in Mission Istaanbul was the critically and financially acclaimed fantasy adventure film Drona (2008). His next movie role was in Tarun Mansukhani’s romantic comedy Dostana (2008), which follows two males (John Abraham and Bachchan) who move in together and pose as gay to live with a girl (Priyanka Chopra), only to find out they are in love. With a global box office revenue of over? 860 million (US$11 million), the film was both a critical and financial triumph. Additionally, it resulted in his third nomination for the Best Actor Filmfare Award.
Bachchan’s 2009 debut film, Delhi-6, received a mediocre review from critics despite doing poorly at the box office. Later that same year, he acted in and produced the family comedy Paa. The film’s plot focused on Amitabh Bachchan, a youngster with progeria whose parents were played by Vidya Balan and Abhishek Bachchan. The movie was a “semi-hit” at the box office, and Bachchan’s producing work earned him the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi.
2010–present: Commercial fluctuations and streaming ventures
In the early 2010s, Bachchan’s career experienced a minor setback. He played Beera in his 2010 debut movie Raavan, which was based partially on the antagonist Ravana from the Ramayana. Critics did not give the movie a favorable review. After that, he starred in Ashutosh Gowariker’s historical drama Khelein Hum. Jee Jaan Sey is Deepika Padukone’s opposite. Based on the book Do and Die, the film tells the story of the armory attack in Chittagong in 1930. Bachchan portrayed his confidante Kalpana Dutta, while Padukone portrayed revolutionary leader Surya Sen.Despite receiving positive reviews from reviewers, the movie did not fare as well at the box office. In the same year, Bachchan voiced a character in Jhootha Hi Sahi.In 2011, he starred in two action thrillers: Game, in which he played a Turkish casino mogul, and Dum Maaro Dum, in which he played a corrupt ACP. Despite Bachchan’s role in the latter being praised, neither of these went well commercially.
Bachchan appeared in the 2012 heist thriller Players, which was a follow-up to the 2003 movie The Italian Job. It was a commercial flop, heavily criticized for both performances and execution, and brutally compared to The Italian Job, despite the media’s high expectations. Then, Bachchan played the lead in Rohit Shetty’s comedy Bol Bachchan, which was a box office success despite the mixed reviews from critics. “A good part of the film,” according to film critic Anupama Chopra, Bachchan “manages to sparkle even in a script that is lazy and determinedly lowbrow.”He received numerous awards for the performance, including IIFA’s and Screen’s Best Comedian. Bachchan reprised his character from the first two Dhoom films in Dhoom 3. In this episode of the show, he and Uday Chopra were joined by Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif. The film received mixed reviews, with some critics claiming that Khan’s performance outperformed Bachchan’s. With box office receipts of?5.42 billion (US$68 million), Dhoom 3 was the highest-grossing Bollywood film ever until 2014, when PK overtook it.
Bachchan’s next role was as Shah Rukh Khan’s co-star in the musical heist film Happy New Year, a dancing comedy directed by Farah Khan. Vivaan Shah, Jackie Shroff, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood, Bachchan, Khan, and Deepika Padukone were all part of the film’s ensemble cast. He received his sixth nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor as a result of the film’s enormous commercial success, which brought in a total of?3.8 billion (US$64.85 million) at the box office worldwide. In the same year, he made a special appearance in the comedy The Shaukeens.Bachchan later made an appearance in the 2015 family comedy-drama All Is Well. The film received negative reviews and did poorly at the box office. His single 2016 release was the comedy Housefull 3, the third episode in the Housefull film series. The film was a commercial triumph at the box office. Bachchan costarred in Anurag Kashyap’s Manmarziyaan (2018) alongside Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal. He was praised for his nuanced acting and the depth he gave the role, despite the movie’s poor box office performance. He made an appearance in the Netflix original black comedy-crime film Ludo in 2020. Reviews were largely favorable. He started costarring with Amit Sadh and Nithya Menen in the Amazon Prime Video original TV series Breathe: Into the Shadows that same year. The plot of the show was criticized by critics, but Bachchan’s performance earned him a nomination for the Filmfare OTT Awards’ Best Actor in a Drama Series category.
Bachachn’s next project, The Big Bull, which he began filming in September 2019 and was produced by Ajay Devgn, Anand Pandit, and Kumar Mangat under the direction of Kookie Gulati, will be streamed globally on Disney+ Hotstar on April 8, 2021. Critics gave the movie mixed reviews, but they complimented Bachchan’s performance. After that, he appeared in Bob Biswas, a Red Chillies Entertainment production that Zee5 premiered in December 2021. The critics gave the movie varying ratings. He started filming Dasvi in February of that year, costarring with Yami Gautam and produced by Jio Studios and Maddock Films, the production companies of Dinesh Vijan.
