Story of the film
Jawahar Pandit (Paresh Rawal) and Mahadev Thakur (Nana Patekar) are two people who live in the villages of Mandaur and Amirpur and hate each other for reasons that are only known to them. Diwakar’s father (Suchindra Bali), who lives in Amirpur, and Vidya’s brother Shiva (Deepraj Rana), who lives in Mandaur, decide to marry Diwakar and Vidya.
When the wedding ceremony is getting ready, neither the girl nor the boy are aware of each other’s appearance. Meanwhile, in case of a dispute, the two communities prepare to face off against one another. The rivalry between the two village chiefs and the sound of the guns firing starts as the wedding ritual begins. Unaware of one another, the bride and groom travel to the town separately for their academic pursuits. They are glad to leave the harsh rural Indian environment behind in order to pursue their own vocations and futures.
When they are totally ignorant of the facts, they first run into each other in the college and then on the train on their way to the town. Diwakar falls in love at first sight, but Vidya ignores his advances. Afterward, she immediately packs her things and leaves for Mandaur, her hometown. While everything is going on, Diwakar finds out that Vidya is his lawfully wedded wife and resolves to rescue her from the grip of two rival villages. They are unable to come together because of the intense animosity between their coteries and the village chiefs, Jawahar and Mahadev. In the end, they do come together, but only after much fighting and bloodshed.
