Yaadein is a 2001 Indian Hindi musical drama film written, directer, editer and producer is Subhash Ghai. The ensemble cast cross over film starring Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor, and Jackie Shroff in lead roles, was released worldwide on 27 July 2001 to negative reviews. It was inspired by Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.

Yaadein was a box office disappointment and the first flop for director Subhash Ghai. Jackie Shroff received nomination for Best Performance in a Supporting Role, Male at the 47th Filmfare Awards. Despite its box office failure, the film was profitable due to ancillary revenues of 21 crore, including 8.2 crore from selling music rights to Tips.

Story of The Film :

Raj Singh Puri is best friends with L.K. Malhotra who is in turn younger brother to J.K. Malhotra. The brothers are business tycoons and Raj works in their company. Raj is father to three young daughters, the first one gets married through arrangement but the second one marries her lover. After a few weeks at her in-laws, the second daughter returns home asking for divorce. After this Raj and her last daughter become strictly against love and relationships. All this changes when Isha (the third daughter) falls in love with the heir to the Malhotra empire, Ronit, L.K. Malhotra’s son. The ask for Raj’s blessing but he bluntly refuses and Isha understandingly shuns Ronit and Raj arranges for Ronit to be married to the daughter of another tycoon. Ronit is unhappy and makes Raj realize that his fiancé’s family is not right for them and Raj approaches the Malhotras to break off the engagement however J.K. Music for the film’s soundtrack was composed by Anu Malik and lyrics writter is Anand Bakshi. Subhash Ghai wanted A. R. Rahman to compose for the film, but the latter declined the offer, since he was busy with the work of Bombay Dreams. According to the Indian trade website Box Office India, with 2.2 million units sold, the film’s soundtrack album was the year’s seventh highest-selling Bollywood music album. Tips, that distributed the album in the market, collected more than ₹6.5 crore from the sales.

Yaadein Movie Review :

This film review are Mostly Positive from Critics, IMDB Public Reviewing site give 4.4 Star Out Of 10 Star with Reviewers are 3224.

I don’t think that this movie should come under such harsh criticism.

The hype has probably killed the movie.

I don’t think that the movie was that bad. It was a good movie but the first half was quite inadequate. And had some really absurd cliches. The second half was quite engrossing.

Hrithik’s performance was his best to date. He really showed his histronics in this movie. He is a very capable actor apart from a good looker and a fantastic dancer. Kareena also showed that she is star material. Jackie also played his role well.

I think in all the hype killed the movie which is otherwise quite an entertaining movie.

Forget the hype and go see it as a non-hyped movie and you may come out of the cinema quite pleased.
