opponens pollicis muscle is small and triangular shape.
it is situated in hand.

this opponens pollicis muscle is deeply situated under abductor pollicis brevis.
it is the one of the three thenar muscle where laterally flexor pollicis brevis.

 

ORIGIN : trapezium and transverse carpal ligament

 

INSERTION : metacarpal bone of the thumb

 

NERVE SUPPLY : recurrent branch of the median nerve

 

ACTION/EXERCISE : flexon of thumb at metacarpophalangeal joint
and also opposition movement of the thumb.

opponens pollicis muscle receives blood from superficial palmar arch.

 

CLINICAL IMPORTANCE :
Pain is felt on the inside of the thumb
Pain is felt in the wrist just below the thumb
Pinching using the thumb and fingers is painful
Difficulty holding objects between the thumb and fingers
like pens, pencils, needles for hand sewing or knitting
Wrist pain is often considered to be a sprain or strain of the wrist

 

In this all condition is pain full for opponens pollicis muscle.
