Satta is a 2003 Indian political drama film co-written and directer by Madhur Bhandarkar. It stars Raveena Tandon in the lead role and Atul Kulkarni, Govind Namdev and Sameer Dharmadhikari appear in the supporting roles.

The film narrates the story of a persecuted wife of an greedy politician who takes on his role after he lands up in jail because of murder charges.Released on 7 February 2003, Satta received critical acclaim upon release and is considered one of the best performances of Tandon.The film was released on the same day as Khushi, Baaz: A Bird in Danger and Kash Aap Hamare Hote.

Story of The Film :

Delhi-based, liberal-thinking, politician-hating Anuradha Sehgal re-locates to Mumbai, finds employment, meets and weds the state’s aspiring Chief Minister, Vivek Chauhan. She soon finds out that the Chauhan family is two-faced, while Vivek himself is a womanizer and an alcoholic; her movements will be restricted, and she will be physically abused. Things dramatically change when Vivek is arrested for murder and lodged in a cell. The Chauhans persuade her to stand for elections in Vivek’s place, which she does. It is here she will witness the nexus between the underworld, businessmen, corrupt policemen and politicians, and that her life is not only in danger outside, but she may be burnt alive by her conservative in-laws who suspect her of having a widely publicized affair with Yeshwant Vardhe.

A great movie by any standards. Songs were not required at all. Raveena Tandon is at her best and has proved that she can do any role, not necessarily glamorous ones. Atul Kulkarni, Shri Vallabh Vyas, Manoj Joshi, Hemendra Bhatia and Anju Mahendru all did justfy the confidence the director had reposed in all of them. The role of politicians played by some of the actors was very realistic. Madhur Bhandarkar has once again proved that he is one of the top directors in the country. The only other movie by Bhandarkar I have seen and liked was Page 3 and I look forward to viewing all his movies. Keep it up Madhur. I strongly recommend this movie for every one to view. Best of luck.
